Rewind to 2023 when I was feeling like drinking was the only way to meet people... I love being social, surely there's other ways of doing this? So, swap the bars with the bush, the alcohol with movement, and start ticking off some of those spots I'd been meaning to get to for years!
Like a lot of good things, it started small. But when I saw what was happening as the community grew, I knew had to figure out a way to keep it going.
Every hike is strangers meeting strangers. And yet it almost never feels like that. People show up alone and nervous, and they leave already looking forward to the next one. They look out for each other on the trail, wait for the ones left behind, and somehow always find things in common. The generosity and support I've watched this community show each other, constantly, without being asked, still catches me in the feels.
If you're reading this trying to decide whether HCS is worth it? The hikes are unreal... but we are so much more than the trails.
